Short Pump Mall

The last few days have been a lot of fun!  It's so nice for Daddy to be off of work for a while!
Yesterday our family, including Nanny and Babum, went to Richmond to shop at Short Pump Mall.  We had a great time!  Short Pump has so many stores that we don't have here in Lynchburg.  The mall was still decorated beautifully for Christmas, just like when we went last year.  The only bad thing about the mall was walking to the different stores because it is all out doors. I think we chose the coldest day of the year to go shopping!  We still had a good time though and it was nice to spend some time with our grandparents.

Merry CHRISTmas!

We had a great Christmas Eve and Christmas day.  It was so exciting to have a white Christmas for the first time in many years!  Yesterday we spent time together as a family and Daddy made his special scones- yum!  A friend of ours also took us for a horse drawn sleigh ride in the snow.  That was a lot of fun!

In the evening we went to the Christmas Eve service at our Church.  Tyler and I were able to play and sing "Silent Night" in the service.  Afterwards we picked up Grandpa and Grandma so they could spend the night with us and be here in the morning.

Today we got up early and opened our gifts.  Then we ate a big breakfast.  We got lots of great things for Christmas but Acts 20:35 is so true ..."it is more blessed to give than to receive."  I love getting gifts but it's so much more fun seeing someone open a gift you gave them.

This afternoon we went to Babum and Nanny's house.  There we opened more gifts and ate more.... and more... and more!

Babum also read the Christmas story from Luke 2.  Isn't it wonderful the gift God gave us on Christmas, the gift of His only begotten Son, Jesus?  And it's so amazing that God's perfect gift would die on a cross to take the penalty for our sins and rise again to conquer death forever.  But remember, like any gift it's not yours until you receive it.  It's like a check some one offers you as a gift for Christmas.  Before you can get the benefits you have to receive it.  It has your name on it so no one can cash it for you.  God offers the free gift of Salvation to all who will reach out by faith and take it.  No one can take it for you though, you must receive it for yourself.

If you haven't received the gift of salvation please do so today.  It's the greatest gift you will ever receive!  If you are not sure how or have more questions I'd love for you to email me ashleyscakes@verizon.net  I would be thrilled to help you!

I loved spending time with our family today.  We are so blessed to be able to do this!  Hope you had a wonderful celebration like our family did!

Merry Christmas from the Schnarrs!

Christmas Cookies

Before we went out looking at Christmas lights yesterday, we made some Christmas cookies to take a long.  Christmas cookie decorating is another one of our family traditions.    We have so much fun doing it each year!
When we were finished  decorating, all the cookies looked different.  Every one has there own styles and ideas that make each one unique.  The cookies turned out great and tasted good too!

Christmas Light Looking

Tonight Daddy left work and doesn't have to go back until after January!!!  It is so nice to have him off of work for while!

To kick off his vacation time we went out looking at Christmas lights.  This is something we've done for a very long time.  We always look forward to it.  All of us get in our Pajamas, grab some cookies, pop-corn and hot chocolate and head to the van.  Then we drive all around Lynchburg and Bedford looking at lights.

Two places that we always make sure and go see are the Elks Home and a house in Bedford with a HUGE yard and tons of decorations.  Both places have great displays!

One thing I would not recommend is taking the side streets.  The snow is beautiful with the lights but not worth getting stuck in for twenty minutes!  Thankfully a nice man who's house we were stuck in front of, let us use some of his salt to melt the ice and a group of people caroling were kind enough to give us a push!  That was an experience!

We really did have a good evening though.  We stayed out for almost three hrs.  It was great being together as a family too.

Snow Days

This week it snowed at our house.  We got about 14 inches which is very unusual for Virginia.  I never remember having that much and definitely not this early in the year.  I heard that we haven't had this much snow in ten years!

The kids have had lots of fun playing in it.  I hear it is great for snow ball fights!  I think everyone was glad they were off from school for Christmas break so they could enjoy it!

Because we live in Virginia and it doesn't snow like this very often some of the roads were slippery.  Many of our plans were canceled including the Christmas cantata at our church.  I had made a very large cake to bring to the cantata  practice but since it was canceled we will be eating a lot of cake over the next few days!

We were unable to have an evening service at our church because of the roads too.  So, we went over to Grandpa and Grandma's house and spent some time with them.  Daddy and Tyler shoveled their drive way for them while we were there.

Both Grandpa and Grandma seem to be doing better as far as their backs go but please continue to keep them in you prayers if would.

Happy Birthday Blog

One year ago today I started blogging.  I have really enjoyed it!  So much has happened in a year.  Probably my two greatest highlights would have to be my grandparents moving here and my Graduation but so many other great things happened too.

Thank you to everyone who has become a follower.  It excites me to know that people actually keep returning to my blog to see what I have written.  I intend to keep on blogging and look forward to seeing what this new year will hold.

Broken Vertebrae

Poor Grandma and Grandpa within the last few days both of them have fallen.  Unfortunately both of them have broken vertebrates in their backs.

They are both in considerable pain.  Yesterday Grandma had an MRI but as far as I know we do not have the results back from that.  Yesterday Grandpa spent a good part of the day in the hospital, after his fall.

Broken vertebrates are certainly not good but we are thankful that it was not any worse.  If you think about it please keep both of them in prayer.

Driver's License

I had a very exciting day!  This afternoon I went over to the DMV and got my driver's license!  I was pretty nervous but it all went well.  All I had to do was drive for about 7 minuets around the DMV.  I still have to go to court to get a hard copy of my license but they gave me a temporary piece of paper as a license until go.

It was a big relief to me (and my parents:)) that I finally got it!  Thank you Mommy, Daddy and Babum for teaching me!

Christmas Festivities

Last Friday I was asked to sing in Holiday Carols, a formal Christmas program that various singers and musicians from around the area preform in.  The program was held at our church and directed my two ladies that go to Timberlake.
The evening went well and I had a lot of fun singing!  Holiday Carols is something our family always goes to see and it was exciting for me to be a part of it.

My Holiday Carols Dress

Saturday I had hosted a Christmas tea party for some of my friends.  Grandma Schnarr let me use her dinning room and some of her tea cups and servers.  I had a really great and I think everyone else enjoyed themselves too.  At the end we all had a Christmas cookie exchange.  Yum!

Saturday Morning Tyler got to play his guitar in a wedding for some friends of ours.  I was not able to go but from what I've hear he did a wonderful job!

Knit Together In Love Project 2009

Yesterday I received all of the scarves we are going to send to Romania.  Our goal was to have 50 scarves and we exceeded our goal by receiving 52!  Thank you so much for all your hard work!  The scarves are so beautiful!

We also received $105 to go towards the shipping of the scarves.  Thank you so much to those of you who helped the project financially!  That was a very special blessing.

Thank you again for you contribution to the project.  Please be in prayer that God will use these scarves to show His love to others.

The Christmas Tree

Last Friday we decorated our house for Christmas. That night we also decorated our tree. Every year we get a new Christmas ornament that had to do with something we were interested in that year. We have quite a few ornaments now. Good thing we have a big tree!

While decorating the tree we listened to Christmas music and ate Christmas cookies, sausage, cheese, crackers and eggnog. We have done that every year ever since I can remember.  I love Christmas traditions!

Thanksgiving 2009

Today we had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We have so many blessings it’s impossible to count them all. One new blessing was the fact that we got to have both Grandparents in town to celebrate with!
This afternoon we went to Babum and Nanny’s house with Uncle Scott, Aunt Vicky, Scott and Lacey, as well as Grandpa and Grandma. Nanny made a wonderful meal that we all helped contribute to. My favorite part was when we sat around the table and told funny stories about ourselves and each other. I love to laugh together with my family!
After eating that huge meal we let it settle and then went back for dessert! We had more than we could possibly eat!
Tonight we came home and decorated our gingerbread houses. That is always so much fun! I will have some pictures later of the finished products.
I am so thankful for the wonderful family God has put me in.  He has truly blessed me!

Trey also went over to Grandma's house to help her with some baking. Today we will be getting some of our food ready for Thanksgiving. This time of year is so much fun!

Fun Weekend

Thursday I went with Grandpa and Grandma to Chemo. The treatment went well and Grandpa seemed to be doing fine when he got home. Only one more treatment left!
Since Daddy and Mommy are out of town on the business trip we have been staying at Nanny and Babum's house. We have had a very nice time. Right now some of us are sitting in front of the fire place and Nanny and Trey are making a dessert for us. Fun weekend!

The Mysterious Islands

Last night Tyler and I went with the Boyers and a group of friends from church to the premier of "The mysterious Island"- A surprising Journey to Darwin's Eden. The movie was very good and was created by Vision Forum Ministries. It was basically a documentary about father and son, Joshua and Doug Phillips, who visit the Galápagos islands. The same islands where Darwin visited and used his findings there to support the evolutionary theory.

The movie was great. Very well made and full of wonderful scientific facts all supporting creationism. If you get a chance to see this wonderful film please do. I think you will really enjoy it. The movie is ether on sale now or will be soon through the vision forum website. Also please take a few minuets to watch a video clip about the documentary. I think you will really enjoy it!  http://themysteriousislands.com/

Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving is coming soon! I can't believe it is almost here! This time of year we all have special traditions that we share. Our family always decorates gingerbread houses on Thanksgiving night. It's been neat to see how the houses have changed through the years. Instead of a single sucker slapped on to the side of the house with gobs of icing we now have a little more elegant designs and ideas.

Last year Mommy and I stayed up very late the night before Thanksgiving to finish the houses. It's funny what lengths we will go to, to keep a tradition!

I'd love for you to leave a comment so we could hear about some of the Thanksgiving traditions that you keep with your family. It could be a funny story about how it started or something that your parents always did with you. Anyway share it with us! And check back in a few days to see other peoples interesting stories.

If you’d like to see our gingerbread houses from last year click this link:  http://whateveristrue-schnarrx7.blogspot.com/search?q=baked+goods

P.S. Don’t forget the Thanksgiving poll in the upper right corner that I put up just for fun.

First Bible Verse Chart Finished!

Well, Amber, Trent and Trey finished their first Bible verse chart today! This morning they said a total of seven Bible verses all at one sitting. As their prize Daddy took us all out to Cold Stone Creamery for ice cream. Good job guys! Keep it up!

The Flood

The last few days have been very rainy at our house. Unfortunately all this rain has caused Grandpa and Grandma's basement to flood. We dropped by their house on Wednesday and I ran down stairs to get something. I heard the sound of trickling water and thought I'd check it out. Good thing I did because their storage room had about two inches of water in it! With the help of a very nice neighbor man we were able to get all the water out of the room only to have it fill up again later.

We are thankful the water just puddle in the other rooms down stairs and only minimal damage was done to the boxes in the basement. We are still working on a solution but hopefully it will be resolved soon.

Veteran's Day

We are so blessed to live in America. We have so many freedoms and privileges that other countries couldn't even dream of having. But Freedom isn't Free so this Veteran’s Day remember to thank God for our veterans, those who have lost their lives for us and those who are daily putting their lives on the line. I'm so thankful for the veterans in my life. Thank you all!

Games and Grandparents

Yesterday my mom had an appointment in Charlottesville. Daddy took the day off to go with her. The appointment went well and they spent the rest of the day shopping and having a good time.

In the afternoon Grandma picked us up and we spent the rest of the day at their house. We brought over some board games and all of us played them together. Grandma made us and delicious dinner and two pies for dessert.

After dinner Grandma told us stories about all the places she had lived. We had a fun learning some new things about her and Grandpa.

Harvest Party

On Saturday night the Sunday school class Babum teaches had a harvest party. The Summer's, a couple in the class, let us use their beautiful home and property to have the party. We had lots of great food and desserts. Everyone brought ether chili and cornbread or an apple or pumpkin dessert.
After dinner they had hay rides, a pinata for the kids and a sing-a-long and testimony time. It rained for a little while but cleared up in time for us to do all the activities we had planned. It was a wonderful evening!

Belated Birthday Dinner

Tonight Daddy and Mommy took me out to Red Lobster for my belated birthday dinner. We had a very nice time. All three of us love shrimp so we got the endless shrimp platter where you get to choose two types of shrimp and have as much as you want. It was great! It was nice to have some alone time with them too.
Afterwards we visited Grandpa and Grandma for a few minuets. Grandpa had his second round of kemo today. He seems to be doing ok. We are so thankful for how well his body has responded to the treatments.
Today we had our piano lessons. We are starting on some Christmas music. That is always exciting for me! Sometime in December we are going to be having a Christmas recital.
Trey has been doing well the last few days. He has not felt sick for quite a while so that is good. We are also thankful none of us have gotten whatever he had!

Update On Trey's Biopsies

Today we heard back from the Doctor's office about Trey's biopsies. They didn't find anything wrong which is a blessing so we still don't know why he is having stomach problems. Thank you everyone of your concerns.
If you think about it please pray for Trey. He is not been feeling well today. We went to the Doctor about it and it's not related to the stomach problems.
Grandpa Schnarr is getting his second Kemo treatment this Thursday. We are so thankful that God has kept him healthy so he can stay on schedule!

What We Are Up To

Last night we had a fun evening with Grandpa and Grandma. They came over for dinner and brought dessert with them. Grandma made a yummy oatmeal cake!
We were also able to babysit Easter and Jonas (our youth pastor's children). Both of them kept us laughing for the whole evening! They were so cute and funny!
Today for lunch we went to Pizza Hut. The kids are involved in the "Book-it" program there. If they read a certain amount of books per month they get a free personal pan pizza.
After Lunch we went to Tractor Supplies. They were having a get together for horse owners to show their animals. Amber loved seeing and petting the horses!
Recently we got a great deal on seasoned stakes so we cooked them on the grill tonight and had a wonderful dinner! Then some of us headed down stares to play instruments. What a fun day!

If you are looking for more good deals here is a website you may want to checkout. It is updated often and tells you about great sales, coupons and even free stuff. http://www.moneysavingmom.com/

Trey's Endoscope

On Sunday Daddy and Mommy took Trey to Ronoke. Trey's stomach doesn't feel well a lot of the time so he needed an endoscope to try to figure out what the problem was. Trey LOVES medical stuff so he was very excited to be able to go.
They were able to stay in a Ronald McDonald house over night. All of them thought it was very nice. The house was beautiful, they were served a nice dinner for free, the refrigerator was stocked with all the things kids love like donuts and ice cream and even the beds they slept on were "Sleep Number" beds.
Monday morning Trey had his endoscope and it went very well. They didn't really see anything but they took some biopsies and we are waiting for the results. Hopefully by Monday we will hear something.

Camping

This weekend we went on a Sunday school camping trip. We are "city people campers" so we stayed in a cute log cabin.
We had a great time even though it rained the first night. On Friday we had decent weather so that was nice. For one of our meals we had hotdogs cooked over a camp fire and hamburgers cooked on the grill- yum! The kids enjoyed riding their bikes around the camp site. And we had a lot of fun sitting around the fire, talking with our good friends.

About Our Week

The last few weeks have been very busy for us. Mommy and Tyler have worked at the pumpkin patch, we have had school and I've had several Bible studies I been going to. It's been a lot of fun but today it's been nice to slow down and get back into a normal schedule (if that even exists LOL).
For school with the younger kids I've been doing some cooking with them. Yesterday we made brownies from scratch. They seemed to enjoy making them.
Lately the kids have been having fun riding bikes on the little road behind our house. We have had some neighborhood kids join them a few times too. It much be cold out today because I see them riding bikes all bundled up in their winter coats and gloves. The other day it was about 80* in the sun. Well that VA weather for you.
Right now I am in the proses of making bread bowls for the stew we are having tonight for dinner. If they turn out well I may put the recipe on the blog for others to have.

Happy Birthday!

Uncle David, Aunt Michelle and Nicholas came down last Friday to stay with Grandpa and Grandma. Since both Grandpa and Nicholas had, had birthdays that week we were able to celebrate with both of them. Saturday Grandma had us, along with Nanny and Babum, over for a little birthday party for both of them. She made a wonderful meal for all of us. I was able to make a cake for each of them too. For Grandpa I made a book cake because he loves to read and for Nicholas I made a cake with a party hat on top.It was so nice to be able to celebrate with them since we have not been able to do that very often.
Happy Birthday Grandpa and Nicholas!

Fun Weekend

We have had a fun but busy weekend. Thursday night we had a family game night. The seven of us played a new game, phase 10 the dice addition, and ate a yummy dessert.
Friday night Amber and I shared a fun evening with Grandma. We had ice cream and went shopping for a little while. Grandpa did the same with the boys earlier, only minus the shopping :)
Saturday, Daddy, Tyler and Grandpa went to an LU football game. Trent went to a birthday party. The rest of us helped Grandma around the house. As a reward we had dinner with homemade milk shakes and cake for dessert. What a great reward!
Sunday while the rest of us were in Church. Daddy and Tyler went with some guys from our church to the Salvation Army. They conducted a church service for the men there. Tyler got to play his guitar and Daddy led some of the music.
This Thursday Grandpa will be starting his Kemo treatments. He has about four sessions of Kemo. We would greatly appreciate your prayers for him.

Duck, North Carolina

Last Thursday we drove to Duck, North Carolina to spend some time at the beach with Babum and Nanny. We just stayed for the weekend but it was a wonderful relaxing time!
Duck has lots of great shopping places including a few Christmas stores. My parents get us each a new Christmas ornament every year. So they were able to find them on this trip.
Most of the days at the beach were very rainy or windy so we only got to spend a few days actually on the beach but it was till lots of fun. Two of the nights when it got dark we all took a walk on the beach. It's amazing how many crabs are out there! Kind of scary! LOL
On Sunday we had our own Church service in the beach house. Babum preached a message and the kids played their instruments. I always enjoy doing that.
We had a wonderful time. It was so nice to be able to relax for a few days.
For those interested I've added a new song to the "Schnarr Family Music" link.

A Blessing For Trent

Trent is very excited! This morning the grocery store called and said that no one claimed the money he found. Sometime today we will be able to pick it up. Isn't it wonderful how God blesses when you choose to do right?

Grocery Store Field Trip

Today for school I took the kids on a grocery store field trip. We learned about comparing products, impulse buying and food placement. Amber, Trent and Trey seemed to have fun, especially when they got to pick out candy for doing so well!
We are also very proud of Trent. While walking through the aisles he found $11 laying on the ground. He showed it to me and asked if we could take it to one of the workers, in case someone came looking for it. We brought the money to costumer services and the lady there told us that if no one came for the money she would call us and let Trent keep the money. Trent had no idea that would happen but he still did what was right. We are so proud of him!

More Volunteers Please!

We have had so many wonderful people help with the finical end of the 2009 Knit Together with Love scarf project. Thank you all so very much! Your gifts are going to be such a blessing!
We have had quite a few people offer to help us knit scarves as well. Thank you so much everyone who has committed to do that. But we are still looking for more volunteers. If you could help us reach our goal of 50 scarves sent to Romania I would greatly appreciate it. Any number of scarves would be a huge help!
For more information about the project please click the link at the top of this page. There I have the full story and the scarf requirements.
Thank you everyone!

Graduation Pictures

Recently I got back the pictures I had taken at my graduation recital. My piano teacher's sister has a photography business "Captivating Moments Photography". Trisha had my pictures taken at the recital for a graduation gift. Thank you Trisha, Tammara and Tessa!!!

Photo Shoot!

Amber and Trey got their pictures taken yesterday at Sears. Didn't the pics. turn out cute?

Happy Birthday Amber!

Yesterday we celebrated Amber's 12th birthday. This was the first time Grandma and Grandpa Schnarr were able to host one of our birthday parties.

Grandma made a wonderful turkey dinner for us (our family, Babum and Nanny). She put out her beautiful China plates and glasses for us to use. Amber loved the meal and the time with family.

For her cake I made her a banjo the same size as the one she plays. She really liked that.

For her birthday she got candy (perfect for Amber), a horse blanket, and the American Girl Doll, Kaya, she had been wanting. She was very excited!

First Week of School

On Monday we started school. I think for the most part everyone is enjoying it. Every morning we start by reading the Bible together and memorizing verses. Amber, Trent and Trey will finally be able to use the Bible verse charts they made. At the end of eight weeks they will get a special prize.
After Bible time Mommy does history, math etc... with them. This works out well for me since I am not a morning person. Then in the afternoon it's my turn to help them with spelling, dyslexia exercises and the other things I've mentioned before.

Trey's 9th Birthday Part 2

On Friday we were able to celebrate the second part of Trey's birthday. It was so nice to have both sets of grandparents at the party. We had a very nice time eating a great dinner and opening gifts. Trey was very excited money he received! I think he is already planning how he will spend it!
For his birthday I made Trey a cake that looked like a monkey face. He loves monkeys so I think he liked it a lot.
We were able to have a great time laughing and joking with everyone. I think Trey had a wonderful birthday!

Beware Lest You Forget...

September 11, 2001... a date that everyone remembers, an event many seem to forget.
I was about nine years old when the airplanes crashed into the World Triad Center. I can't tell you I remember everything vividly but I do remember I was afraid we all were, every single American. It was a terrible act and we all wondered what would happen next.
I'd have to say that is what I remember most about 9/11, our wonderful God and how so many Americans turned to Him in this time of crises. There were signs all over the place saying "In God We Trust" and "God Bless America". It was wonderful to see the American people relying on God. When we called out to Him, He listened. God kept our nation safe.
But something happened... something awful. We forgot.
Once everything seemed to calm down, once we thought it was safe again we no longer felt the need to rely on God. We've forgotten how much we needed Him only a few short years ago. Suddenly instead of hanging signs up declaring our trust in God we debate as to whether we should keep "In God We Trust" on our currency. We even try to discourage people from using the name of Jesus in schools. What happened? How did we change so quickly? The answer is simple. We've forgotten.
Deuteronomy 8:11-14 Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
I would encourage you today take time to remember 9/11. Make sure you haven't forgotten and pray for our nation's healing.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Unpacking

Everything went well this Saturday. Grandpa and Grandma made it here safely and we had a lot of very nice people from our church come to help us unload the moving truck. We were able to get that done in less than 2 hrs. Thank you every one for your help!
For the last few days we have been helping Grandma and Grandpa unpack boxes and put the things away. We have been doing little odds and ends like hanging curtains and putting up the water bed. Yesterday Nanny and Babum came over for a few hours to help us out. Then Nanny made a wonderful dinner for the tired packers. It's so nice to have both setts of grandparents in town!

Trey's Birthday Part 1

Yesterday Trey turned nine years old. He was very excited! We had a small celebration last night with Nanny and Babum. He opened a few gifts and we had cheese cake and ice cream. For dinner Mommy made Trey's favorite meal - Breakfast! Trey loved the blue berry pancakes, orange rolls, bacon and egg casserole!

Once Grandpa and Grandma get settled in we will have another little party for Trey. Trey will enjoy celebrating it all over again!

Welcome to Virginia!

The Day is finally here! Grandpa and Grandma Schnarr are moving to Virginia! Thank you to everyone who has been praying. We would appreciate it if you would continue to pray that that things will go smoothly in the loading and unloading process.
Don't forget their is still time to help with the 2009 "Knit Together with Love" scarf project! For more information click the link at the top of this page.

New Cooking Supplies

To add to the fun of cooking for school, we went to the store today and bought
individual cooking supplies each of the kids. They got to pick out a basket to keep their own supplies in. Then we purchased measuring cups, spoons, a cutting board and their very own knife. Amber, Trent and Trey really got a kick out of having their own utensils. It didn't cost much ether to buy the stuff because we purchased the items at the dollar store.
After we got home the kids were so excited about their new things they wanted to start cooking right then. So, we put together an Oreo cake complete chocolate garnishes. For dinner we made "potatoes au gratin". Everything turned out delicious and we had fun making it too!

Decorating Aprons

Earlier this week I was able to help Amber, Trent and Trey decorate aprons for school. I figured since we will be having a cooking class and an art class aprons would come in handy. We bought plain canvas aprons, iron-on patches, fabric paint and material to make pockets. We also got wonder-under (similar to hemming tape but larger) great for making your own iron-on appliques!
All the aprons turned out very cute! All three kids are very creative and did a wonderful job!
