Robotics Competition

Early this morning Tyler, Daddy and Mommy went to Liberty University to practice for the robotics competition one last time before the race. Later on we joined them there to watch.

Tyler and his friend Ryan were one of about sixteen teams. They did a great job building and racing their robot. They had godly attitudes and good integrity. Tyler's team won fifth place and we are very proud of them. They also won ipods for bringing the biggest and loudest crowd with them. :-D

All and all it was a fun learning experience for them and they plan to compete again next year.

Peruvian Cuisine

My mom Nanny and I went to a Peruvian restaurant for lunch, with the homeschool group. Like I mentioned before our family has been studying the country of Peru and this was a great way to experience Peru's culture even more. The food was really pretty good. A lot the food we were familiar with like pinto beans and rice pudding. In Peru they use a lot of spices which they add to chicken, rice, potatoes etc... In the restaurant they also had a special drink they served made from purple corn. It tasted like watered down cranberry juice. Not bad but I wouldn't order it again.
Potatoes are another big thing in Peru. That is actually one of the things our family talked about at the geography party. It was neat to be able to taste some authentically cooked potatoes at the restaurant. One of the ways they serve them in Peru is stuffed with ground beef. That wasn't bad at all.
If you are every feeling adventurous you might want to try out a Peruvian restaurant. We had fun with it!

Class Activities

My parents are the activity directors for the Abundant Life Sunday school class. They have come up with a lot of fun activities for both couples and families. Some of the things they have organized are a bond fire and sing-a-long, a couples night at Koto's restaurant, class afterglows and some great Christmas parties. One of the next activities they are planning for the class is a camping trip. The class will be going to a camp site about an hour away. We have been there before and really enjoyed it. The camp site has quite a few choices when it comes to camping, you can go the tent route, or there are places for campers to be hooked up and for us city people they have cute little cabins with all the modern conveniences. The class will be going on October but there is a lot of planning that goes into a trip like this so we are starting now. We are hoping to have a bond fire, some devotionals, the camp ground has a hay ride and a nice little creek and some good hiking places. It looks like it will be a lot fun for everyone who can make it!

Geography Party

One of the things we do for homeschooling is have Geography Parties. That is when our family, along with a few other families get together to learn about a particular country. All the families give a report about that country, we eat food from that country and dress up as people from that country. Yesterday we had one of those parties. We studied the country of Peru. Our family chose to talk about Peruvian foods. To make it fun to learn about, we put on a skit inspired by "Iron Chef America". Tyler was Alton Brown, Trey was iron chef Bobby Flay, Amber was the guest Chef, Daddy was the Chairmen, and Trent and I were judges. We had a lot of fun and we learned a lot too.

Unclouded Day

This evening Daddy, Tyler, Amber, Trent and Trey played their instruments in church. They did a great job! We had lots of people come up to us afterwards and say what a blessing they were. One lady told us that her face hurts when they are done playing because she can't help but smile really big through the whole song!

The song they chose this time was "Unclouded Day". I will have to put it on the blog when I get a chance. It really was beautiful and we are proud of each of them!

Spending Time With Friends

This evening our Sunday school class had an adult dinner at Koto's restaurant. So while our parents went to dinner we visited our friends the Boyer's. I was able to catch up with my friend Brittany and spend quite a while chatting with her. Tyler, Amber, Trent and Trey had a fun time playing games with some of the other Boyer kids, Tuck, Kelly and Casey. You could hear a lot of laughing coming from down stairs, it sounded like they were having a great time! We have a lot of good memories of going over to the Boyer's, when we were younger, and we are still making them today!

Over View of Our School Year

Tyler is in 9th grade this year and is doing very well in school. Right now he is studying the Greek language and Algebra among other things. He is also learning Physical Science and got 100% on his test yesterday!

Amber, Trent and Trey are all doing the same work for school. And we can all see them progressing a lot this year!

As I have mentioned before I am graduation this year and have completed all my school books. I'm very excited to see what God's has for me next.

Not only do we go through work books but last summer we finished "Answers Academy" from Answers in Genesis. "Answers Academy" is a series of DVDs that teaches how to defend your faith against evolution. Giving us the answers on why things such as carbon dating, the Grand Canon and fossils do not support evolution. The series was very good and we would recommend it to anyone. The coolest thing was that even though some of the things we learned were difficult to comprehend even Amber, Trent and Trey now understand the difference between Macro-Evolution and Micro-Evolution, that the earth is only a few thousand years old and therefore fossils are not billions of years old and that the Grand Cannon was laid down quickly by the World Wide Flood not millions of years!

We are starting to get to the end of our school year but we have more things planed for this summer that we will learn a lot from such as "Drive-thru History" and reading the book Mrs. Marilyn Boyer wrote "For You They Signed". Last summer we focused more on science this year we will learn more about history and particularly the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Here are a few sites your can look at to view some of the products mentioned: "For You They Signed" - www.thelearningparent.com "Answers Academy"- www.answersingenesis.org

Beautiful Weather

We've had a big change from the snowy weather last week. Now it's been warm, breezy and in the seventies. For lunch the other day I made sandwiches and we sat out in the front yard and had a picnic lunch. It was so nice to be able to ware short selves and flip-flops in contrast to the sweaters and boots from last week.
Amber, Trent and Trey have been playing outside a lot this week. We have a playhouse in our backyard that has been getting quite a bit of use! Tyler has been shooting baskets on our driveway with Trent. It's been nice for all of them to be able to let out some energy.

Family Fun

Cole checking to see if I posted anything new
I know it's sad that I haven't been able to post for a while! We have been having computer trouble but it's fixed now! (I found Cole like this the other morning, just had to get a picture)
Earlier this week we went to our grandparent's house. Scottie and Lacey (our cousins) were staying there for the night because their power was out due to the snow. While we only got about four inches of snow they got quite a lot and so did Nanny and Babum (what we call our grandparents). So they all went sledding with Scottie and Lacey, on the hills in Lake Vista.
Tyler had some friends over last night. They all went to a Liberty hockey game, then they came home a played video games. It sounded like they had a lot fun and actually got some sleep last nigh!
I spent the night at Babum and Nanny's house. We had a lot of fun! I showed Nanny some things on the Internet for the blog. Then we went to the mall and went shopping. I had a nice time with Babum this morning drinking coffee and talking.
Right now Tyler is practicing for a robotic competition with one of his friends. They got a kit in the mail and built there own robot. Liberty University is having a competition, with a scholarship as the prize.

Snow Day

Everyone thought spring was coming early this year with how mild the weather has been then last night it started snowing. This morning we woke up and for the first time in about three years we have four inches of snow! Tyler, Amber Trent and Trey loved playing in it (so did the dogs)! Amber, Trent and Trey have gone sledding and had snow ball fights with Tyler.

Wonderful Weekend

Daddy has been working extra hard lately. He has, had a lot of problems at work that he has needed to deal with. As a result he has worked late nights and even some on Saturdays. So this weekend we planed for all of us to spent some time together as a family. On Friday we went out to dinner, we had a wonderful time being together and joking around! Saturday morning we had a big breakfast with french toast, fried potatoes and home-smoked-bacon. Then we went shopping together for a few hours. After lunch we sat around and played music for a while. It's really exciting to see how every one has progressed in their musical abilities and how they can play so well together. It was a very nice weekend and every one enjoyed it.
