Summer

Ok, so I’m back. I guess it’s been quite a while since I last posted! I guess I’ll break it down by months and cover the big things.
One of my highlights for June was going to visit my cousin Aundrea in Illinois for two weeks. She was graduating from high school so I went to celebrate with her. I had a lot of fun doing new exciting things like taking my first flight alone. I even shot my first gun! We did lots of shopping, preparing for her graduation party and just getting a chance to get caught up with each other. I had so much fun! I really enjoyed getting to know my Aunt, Uncle and other cousins better too!

A few days after I got back all of us kids were able to spend the week at Nanny and Babum’s house while Daddy and Mommy went to California. We also got to spend some time with my cousins Scottie and Lacey during that week.
In July we had a lot of things going on. I had a few wedding cakes to make over the last couple of months and they all took a lot of time and planning. We also got to spend time with the Robertson’s (my uncle, aunt and cousins from Illinois). They came to visit with Grandpa and Grandma Schnarr for a few days. We had a great time showing them around Lynchburg!
We were pretty busy in August too. I celebrated my 18th birthday on the 11th. We had a small party with family and a few close friends. I am so blessed with so many people who love me! They all gave me very sweet, meaningful gifts. My favorite gift though would have to be from my parents. It was a hope chest! I had been wanting to get one for a while now but this one will be so much more special to me because Daddy is building it himself! It’s looking beautiful so far! I love it! I’ll try to remember to post pictures when it’s completed.
I can’t believe it’s already September! Already we have celebrated Trey’s 10th birthday. And Amber’s is coming up soon! Trey is really enjoying the bag of candy and treats, the bike, yoyo, video camera and books he got for his birthday. All favorites of his!
Today the kids started school again too.  I think so far it is going well and they are liking the book they have for this year.
Well, again I’m going to attempt to keep up with the blog more often but sometimes life is so crazy I just can’t seem to catch my breath!

May 2010

Wow! It’s been a long time since I have been able to find the time to post something. I’ll try to do a quick recap to cover the major events we’ve had lately.
A few weeks ago we were able to go to the beach for vacation. We had great weather, the water was warm and the temperature was great all week! We enjoyed long walks on the beach at night looking for crabs, sunny days playing in the water, fishing on the pier and we even got to see a shark! One day we got to ride a ferry and visited an aquarium, we spent another day shopping and lots of time just enjoying family.
Last month we had a chance to have dinner with some friends at their lake house. They have a very nice boat that we all had a chance to ride it. Mr. Summer’s enjoys hunting and he let us try the bear that he recently shot. It was actually very good! It looked and tasted like roast beef.

Recently one of my friends, Michael Winks, who was in the college and career class at church died in a motorcycle accident. He was only twenty-two. I was able to got to his memorial service on Monday. Though it was a sad time it was also a celebration that he is now in heaven with the Lord. I was reminded that we need to make every day count for the Lord. We are not promised tomorrow. I’m sure the Winks family would appreciate your prayers.
I have also made my first two wedding cakes over the last two week. Both went very smoothly and I think the brides enjoyed. If you would like to see pictures I have them on my website http://www.ashleyscreativecakes.com/
Uncle David, Aunt Michelle and Nicholas came for a visit over memorial weekend. We were able to have a nice dinner with them before they went home and the kids were able to spend time playing with Nicholas.

We have had a lot of things going on the past few weeks here are just a few of the things we have been up to.

As I mentioned before at Easter time we celebrated Babum and Nanny's birthdays.  Grandpa Schnarr held a Sader demonstration for our Sunday school class around Easter time too.  A Sader demonstration is basically showing some of the Jewish customs at passover.  If was very interesting.

Two Saturdays ago our cousins Joel, Chrissy and baby Catlin came to visit for the day.  We all had a very nice time with them.

Daddy was out of town last week on business so we spent the week at Babum and Nanny's house.  This was a lot fun.  It was great to have a change in schedule and spend some time with them.

Easter 2010

We had a wonderful Easter this year. The day before Easter we spent some time with the Brodie side of the family. Not only did we celebrate Easter we also had a combined birthday party for Nanny and Babum.

On Easter we celebrated with the Schnarr side of the family. That was a nice time too. I don't think we have ever been able to spend Easter with Grandpa and Grandma before.
Everyone at our house is doing well. We have been very busy lately and without my laptop it has been difficult for me to find time to post very much.
Daddy has been out of town a lot on business but he is coming home tonight. We are excited about that. Tyler got his wisdom teeth taken out last week. He seems to be recovering well. I have a few cakes I'm going to be doing in the near future that will keep me pretty busy.
All of us are looking forward to summer when hopefully things will start to slow down.

Spring

Today I finally have a couple of seconds to blog. I’ve been so busy I just haven’t had time.
Spring seems to be here to stay. I’m loving the nice weather! The kids have been enjoying it too.

One day last week we went to the LU monogram to have a picnic lunch. If you haven’t gone I would certainly suggest it. The view of Lynchburg is beautiful. We hiked to the monogram but there is a road to you can drive up there if you would prefer not to walk.

I’ve been busy getting lots of good deals lately. Right now I really don’t have time to blog about them on A Real Steal but I would suggest www.moneysavingmom.com if you are on the look out for good deals.
I just found out tonight that I am going to have to send my laptop back in for repairs. So, I probably will not have a lot of time to blog in the near future but I will try to update you as time allows.

Warmer Weather

Today we had some gorgeous weather!  It was so warm we opened the windows to cool the house down.  The kids enjoyed being able to ride their bikes out side.

I have a cake I'm making this weekend.  The kids are getting ready for a song they will be playing in Church in couple of weeks and Daddy is going to be getting an epidural shot for his shoulder on Friday.  We would appreciate your prayers Friday afternoon.

What We've Been Doing

Wow it's been a while since I've posted!  My life has gotten even busier than normal and there never seems to be enough hours in a day.  I'll try to get caught up on a few things.

Last Friday we had some friends over for dinner, the Smith family.  Before dinner most everyone went ice skating at Liberty University's ice rink.  It sounded like they had a really good time.  It was great to spend some time with this special family.

Over the last few weeks it has been snowing on and off but we haven't had any snow that amounted to much lately.

On Thursday nights I am attending a girls Bible study with people from the college and career class from our Church.  We always have a good time and we are going through a really great study of Ephesians chapters 1 and 2.

I've also been working on my new website design which has taken a lot of my time.  If you'd like to take a look you can go to http://www.ashleyscreativecakes.com/

The kids have been keeping up with school and their music lessons.  Today I helped them make gingersnap cookies for their cooking class.

With the cold weather it's been encouraging for me to hear everyone start talking about our beach trip comming up this spring.  Yeah!  There's an end in sight for winter!

Happy 60th Birthday Nanny!

Nanny just turned 60 yesterday!  We haven't celebrated her birthday yet but we will in the in the near future and when we do I will post about how we celebrated this special day.  I am so blessed to have such a wonderful and sweet person as my grandmother.  Happy Birthday Nanny!

I have also added a new song to the Schnarr Family Music link if you are interested.

Happy 16th Birthday Tyler

Tyler turned sixteen on Valentine's Day.  We celebrated his birthday the Friday before.  Nanny and Babum let us use their house to invite some of Tyler's friends and family.  As a group we played "Tyler Trivia", we opened gifts and ate cake and ice cream.  Daddy and both Babum and Grandpa each gave a charge to Tyler.  It was a very special time.
Tyler is thinks God may be calling him to the ministry so some of the gifts he received were commentaries and a Greek study Bible.  Another gift he got was something he had been wanting for quite a while, a Wii.  Tyler was very excited about all his gifts.
All of us are very proud of Tyler he is a godly man diligently seeking God's will for his life.  He has a great sense of humor and a fun personality.

Happy Sixteenth Birthday Tyler!  We love you!

Blog Info

Just for your information I've added a few updates to http://www.arealsteal.blogspot.com/  I had a lot going on so I had to put that blog on the back burner.  I am also redesigning http://www.ashleyscreativecakes.com/ so you will be seeing a newer more modern design, hopefully in the next week or so.

Super Bowl Party and Even More Snow

We have had even more snow the last few days!  I just can’t get over this weather!

We decided to buy some sleds since all our old ones had broken. Unfortunately everyone else in Lynchburg had the same idea so we had a very hard time finding any. I think my Mom called all the stores around and everyone was sold out! Finally we stopped at a little hardware store and they had two sleds left. Someone had put them on hold and never come back for them. Everyone was very excited and had lots of fun with them when we got home.

Sunday night we had our annual family super bowl party. Babum, Nanny, Grandpa and Grandma came to watch the game with us. I’m not a big fan of football but the guys enjoyed the game. My favorite part is always the food LOL It really was a fun evening and I’m so glad the weather was good enough for everyone to come over.

More Snow

The last few days have been very different for us Virginians.  We got another big snow last weekend and we are continuing to have wintry weather throughout the week.  We are definitely not use to this.  I think every one has enjoyed it though.  When you are snowed in it forces you to take time to rest.

The kids have enjoyed playing in the snow and this time I even went sledding.  It's been a lot of fun but I think I am ready for spring!

Here are a few random pictures for you to enjoy.

The Rainbow

Monday of this week Grandpa and Grandma's basement flooded again. It wasn't as bad as before but it was certainly a mess. We went over and helped them clean it up. It was easier this time because everything that needed to stay dry was already put on tables from the last flood.

I was starting to feel a little like Noah in the Bible because that afternoon we looked outside and saw a full rainbow. I was kind of hoping that I would hear a voice saying "I will never flood you basement with water again" but I didn't. Oh, well. LOL

The rainbow was beautiful! I've posted a few pictures but all out camera batteries seemed to die when we would go to take a picture so I didn't get a very good shot.

Shopping

Friday Nanny picked me up to go shopping.  We shopped for 6 hrs!  It was so much fun!  I think we hit every store in Lynchburg.  Both of us found some good deals.

After we finished shopping I spent the night at her house because Babum was out of town.  In the morning we got up and headed out again to shop some more.  I had a very good time it as so much fun to spend time with Nanny!

Dinner and Grandpa and Grandma's House

Yesterday I went over to Grandpa and Grandma's house and helped her do some cleaning.  Then the rest of the family came over and we all had dinner together.
After dinner we played a few games and then went over to the TV to watch an old home video.  This particular video was when all of the Schnarrs got together for Christmas one year.  It was so funny to see how everyone has changed over the years.  We had a very good time last night.

Our Week So Far

We have had a lot of things going on he past few days.  On Sunday I sang in church.  As soon as I can I will post that on the Schnarr Family Music blog.
Monday Daddy, Mommy and I went out to dinner.  We had a very nice time.  Tuesday Tyler and Trey had their harmonica lessons. They have just started taking lessons and seem to enjoy it.  I am looking forward to when they are able to play their harmonicas along with other instruments.
Yesterday I also helped Amber, Trent and Trey make Oatmeal Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookies Bars.  They turned out very good and there was enough to feed a lot of people!  If you are interested in trying this recipe you can find if here.  Instead of making the dessert in cookie form we put all the batter in a 9x13 pan and baked it longer.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Last night we celebrated Daddy’s birthday. We had Babum, Nanny, Grandpa and Grandma over for dinner to help us celebrate. Grandma said she thinks it has been around 20 years since they were able to be with Daddy on his birthday. It was a very special time.

Instead of cake (we are a little tired of that) Mommy made Daddy a coconut cream pie and rice pudding, some of Daddy’s favorites . Both were very good!

As gifts Daddy got a whole new out fit which he really seemed to like. He enjoys cooking so we got him a special hand held mixer too. The evening went very well and I think every one had fun.
I am so blessed to have Donn Schnarr as my father. He is such a good leader in our home. He is a hard worker and a wonderful provider. He makes me feel safe. He encourages me in my walk with the Lord. He has so much wisdom and insight that would be very hard to find in any other person. I admire his convictions and the fearless way he stands for them.

Thank you for you role in my life Daddy. Happy birthday.

Lunch with Amber

I printed off some coupons today (check out http://www.arealsteal.blogspot.com/).  There were some really good deals so I decided to take Amber out to lunch.  We had a very nice time.  I enjoyed being with her.  It's exciting to me that I can do things like this now that I have my drivers license.
First we went to Taco Bell for lunch and then we ran a few errands.  After that we stopped by Wendy's and I got Amber a frosty.  She was pretty excited about that.  She loves sweets!  It was nice to be able to have a good time with her and by using the coupons the entire outing only cost around $6!

Roanoke Malls

It's been a little while since I've posted.  I've had a lot going on.  I plan on getting back into the routine of blogging now that things have slowed down a little.

Today Babum and Nanny took us to Roanoke to go shopping.  We went to two malls and got some really great deals.  It always amazes me when I go to a different mall than the one in Lynchburg.  We really do have a small mall compared to a lot of other places!
We had a great time together.  We didn't decide to go until this morning so it was a good surprise!

Last week was our first week back to school since Christmas brake.  It's hard going back even for me when I'm just teaching but the week went very well.
For our art class I helped the kids make snowflakes out of paper.  They turned out really well.  Right now we have them hanging in our living room.  I've posted a few pictures of them and here are the instructions if any of you are interested in trying them with you children.

French Meal

Last year Daddy and I made a French meal while he was off on vacation.  We decided to do that this year too.  Saturday we invited Grandpa and Grandma over to eat with us and we made Providential Beef Stew and Chocolate Loaf with Coffee Sauce.  The meal turned out really well and I had a wonderful time cooking it with Daddy!

New Blog!

I will be starting the new year by creating a new blog.  This particular one will be dedicated to letting you know about great coupons, sales and discounts.  Recently I've found some great money saving resources and I want to share them with you.
The blog is still a work in progress but should be finished soon.  I'll be letting you know more about it in the near future.

Happy New Year!

Yesterday we went over to Nanny and Babum's house to spend the night and celebrate the new year.  We turned on the fire place and sat around while Babum showed us some of his "treasures".  He pulled out a couple of bags and boxes with things from his family and childhood like his horsey light he had as a baby, an old chromatic harmonica, lots of coins and even some of his military pins.  It was really neat to be able to see all those things and hear the stories behind them.
After that we pulled out the food and as always there was tons of food!  Then we watched some comedy DVDs and waited for the ball to drop on TV.
This morning we all went to Cracker Barrel with both setts of grandparents.  It was a wonderful meal and a very nice time with all the family.
So many things have happened this year and I've learned so much from all the experiences.  I can't wait to see what God has in store for 2010.
    Happy New Year everyone!
